Dental Office Protocol During COVID-19 - Our Safe Smile Space

1. Appointments must be made and confirmed verbally by phone in order to screen all patients for symptoms of COVID-19. Symptoms include: fever, chills, cough, shortness of breath, difficulty breathing, fatigue, muscle or body aches, headaches, loss of taste or smell, sore throat, runny nose, nausea or vomiting, diarrhea, or just feeling unwell. Anyone exhibiting any of these symptoms will not be scheduled and will be required to wait 14 days. Persons who have traveled out of town, or may have possibly had contact with a COVID-19 positive individual must wait 14 days prior to their appointment to make sure they are symptom free. No more text or email appointment confirmations. It must be done verbally.
2. Facemasks are required to be worn at all times in the office unless you are seated in the dental chair receiving treatment. Upon arrival outside, and prior to entering the office you will call the office 703-522-7733 from outside to let the staff know you have arrived. The receptionist will let you know if the check-in area is clear and you can enter.
3. Upon entry into the office, maintain social distance, use our touchless hand sanitizer. Your temperature will be taken with a non-contact thermometer. Temperature must be less than 100.4 degrees and you must be healthy, or you will not be seen. You will be asked to fill out and sign a COVID-19 health screening form. The pen is new and you may keep it. In order to keep the amount of people inside to a minimum, you will be asked not to bring anyone with you. If the patient is a minor, 1 parent is allowed. All of our staff wear masks, clean uniforms, and are health screened every day, and our temperature is taken. In order to prevent cross contamination, there are no magazines, computer work areas, or cell phone charging stations in the reception room. There are protective plexiglass barriers installed at the front desk. The office is meticulously cleaned and disinfected after each person. Windows are opened to allow in fresh air.
4. Enhanced PPE and super clean treatment rooms. The doctor, hygienist and assistant will be wearing 2 masks- an N-95 and level 3 surgical mask, clean scrubs, disposable gowns, gloves, safety glasses, face shield, and a surgical cap. High speed suction is used during treatment to remove all aerosols. Hands are washed often. Appointments are staggered and the doctor and hygienist only see 1 patient at a time. We have plenty of modern, high tech, state of the art treatment rooms, and patients are spread out and seen in different rooms. Although our staff looks different in our protective clothing, we are still the same loving and caring people inside. Please do not hesitate to contact us if you have any questions or concerns. We are here for you. We will get through this together.
